Melbourne Ends with a Bang

The inaugural Melbourne Music event will close with a highly-audible bang on Sunday, 10 October with a free all-ages concert presented by the Victoria Rocks program.

As part of the Melbourne Music program launch today, Minister for the Arts Peter Batchelor announced the closing concert will feature performances by Keith! Party, Kate Vigo, Oh Mercy and DJ sets by the Puta Madre Brothers.

“The Victoria Rocks Finale concert, which will be held on the City Square stage, will highlight the diversity of genres and styles in Victoria’s contemporary music sector and will showcase some of the state’s best and brightest emerging acts, alongside those poised to take on the world,” he said.

“All the featured performers in the finale have received grants to develop their music careers through Victoria Rocks, the Brumby Labor Government’s contemporary music funding program. It is great that through this finale concert we can further showcase the great talent we’re supporting through Victoria Rocks.”

Consisting of ten MCs and one DJ, Keith! Party will kick of the finale concert with their unique blend of rap-rave followed by a set by Kate Vigo. Puta Madre Brothers will bring it all together with DJ sets throughout the afternoon and the headline act, Oh Mercy, will close the show.

“Since we launched the program in 2007, Victoria Rocks has supported more than 270 individual musicians and groups with grants totalling more than $2.2 million, Mr Batchelor said.

“Whether it has been the recording of a demo, staging a tour or attending a music conference, the program aims to help musicians and bands, in a very practical way, to reach the next stage of their careers.”

Mr Batchelor said Victoria was proud to be home to contemporary music in Australia and Melbourne was truly the heartland of this thriving scene.
